New Show

11/29/05 1835 hours

They got a new show out called “American Soldier”. It showed on the 26th, and if anyone saw it I was wondering if they could give their opinion on how they enjoyed it. I’m reading an article in the Army Times thats hinting that the show is too much reality. That in itself is retarded….but that’s just me.

Anyway, any opinions on the show would be appreciated. Tanx.

Well for one they stole my name! Two, my wife and I watched it and felt it was not that great. We didn’t like how it was edited I guess. I mean one day they are leaving the MOB site and then the next in Kuwait, then before you know it, they are rolling over the birm. They cut out like 2 weeks worth of action. It sort of hit real close to home, so the wife couldn’t watch it all.

  2. Chad Says:

Hey, I haven’t even heard about the show. I guess thats a good thing, cos it means I don’t watch TV. Course, I really don’t have time anymore. Just wait till I got a bebe. Then I’ll never have time for anything. Then where would AS go? Back to blogspot? (j/k)

  3. American Soldier Says:

C’mere Chad so I can give you a noogy!

  4. Pam Says:

Hey, blogspot’s not all THAT bad… Although, I guess in comparison it is rather pale. :???:

  5. -[Medic]- Says:

Don’t feel bad Pam, you have an excellent blog.

  6. Pam Says:

    Aww, thanks!

  7. Pam Says:

On a more relevant note, I saw the end of the show the other day. It made me want to cry… but I AM a girl, so that’s nothing new. It’s supposed to come on again soon and I’ll try to watch it so I can give a proper assessment.

  8. Mary Ellen Says:

Ok, I’m feeling totally clueless about this program ya’ll are talking about. Would anyone care to divulge a channel or network so that I may be enlightened as well? (note: ya’ll is this Northern gal’s only concession to living in the lovely South.)

  9. Pam Says:

It’s on CMT. I was flipping through and landed on my favorite music video channel and caught the tail end. CMT is 63 on cable here at college, and 328 (?) on DirecTV. Those are the only two I’m familiar with.

  10. Mary Ellen Says:

    Pam,
Thank you! I’ve looked it up and found that it’s on tonight/this morning at 12:30. I’ve set the DVR (god bless technology that I understand) Now I’m starting to feel a bit more in the loop.

  11. Pam Says:

Awesomeness! Glad I could help!

  12. Kat in GA Says:

lol well, till now i’d never heard of it, LOL…. and still haven’t seen it and llikely won’t. I almost never have time for tv, LOL!

  13. Kat in GA Says:

OK, after doing a bit of research, i discovered that this show follows soliders from Georgia’s 48th National Guartd BCT… therefore, LOL, I’ll just HAVE TO watch it, since it’s all aobut my local heroes! :-)

Though really, it was rather rude of them to steal A.S.’s name, LOL!

  14. Mary Ellen Says:

Watched the program and I’m glad I did. As I live in ATL, I was a bit embarassaed to find that the show is about a group from Dublin, GA which is just down the road. As usual, MSM is continuing with their policy of touting the bad news..God forbid we should hear about any positive feedback via the local newsprint or airwaves. My only complaint about the show was the inordinate amount of commercials! It’s much like the “Off to War” program about the Arkansas Nat’l Guard troop that was deployed to Iraq. (think that one’s on Discovery Channel?

    Mary Ellen,
Welcome to the south. I could tell you were a Yankee because you hyphenated “y’all” wrong. The hyphen goes after the Y, not the A. But I give you high marks for using it properly in a sentence. Glad to see the South has rubbed off on y’all.

  16. Pam Says:

Finally! Somebody who agrees with my conjuctive breakdown! (Hehe. I just made that word up, I think…) All of the folks I know say it’s “ya all” combined to “ya’ll” but I have maintained it is, in fact, “you all” combined to form “y’all”. Sweetness!

  17. Chad Says:

How’s the RC Cola and Moonpies treatin’ y’all?

  18. Sure Fire Says:

“Oh damn, it’s just a mirage….an RC Cola machine.”

  19. Kat in GA Says:

 Yep, y’all is definitely spelled “y’all,” LOL!!! GOOD JOB!!!! I have no idea where Dublin, GA is… I’m in loganville (about an hour SE of ATL.. .and home of Sgt. Michael Stokely of the 48th BCT, who was KIA in August 2005.   )

Anyway, would you believe that DANG IT I FORGOT IT WAS ON LAST NIGHT?! I ended up writing a letter to my adopted soldier instead (do I get points for the fact that it was my adopted 48th soldier i was writing to, at least?! LOL!) ARgh, I’m so mad… dang it!

LIke i said…i’m not a tv person and tend to forget to watch tv at all, LOL

  20. Mary Ellen Says:

    Stoicmom,
I appreciate the correction and even more so that you let the incorrect spelling of the word “embarassed” slip by without comment. I consider myself a spelling snob. Can’t do math, but spelling..watch out. However,I have no problem with being corrected, especially by one as gracious as you!

    Kat in GA,
Dublin is Southeast of Atlanta, down below Macon and east of Warner Robbins off Hwy 16. Would you like me to send you a reminder for the show??? Be happy to do that.

  21. Kat in GA Says:

Mary Ellen… you are an angel!!! Thanks so much! Yes, please remind me…dingbat taht i am, i will forget otherwise… my email is Jeffskat [at] gmail.com

    *hugs*

Nice to “meet” you sort of, LOL

  22. Sure Fire Says:

Is it just me or does it look like there are a majority of mom’s and/or military wives on here….

  23. Kat in GA Says:

LOL Well, I’m none of the above… I’m just a lill ole nobody over here, no military in my family, LOL! So if there’s mostly military moms & wives here, then I’m definitely in the minority! LOL!!!!!

  24. Pam Says:

Well, I’m in the minority, too. Not a wife, not a family member, and definitely not a mom yet. Go figure. But I seriously think the women are much more enthusiastic than the men. Hehe.

  25. SK Says:

Just checked, can’t get RC in bottles here, sorry was going to offer to send you some. Nope…not a mom, not a military wife. Just alot of family who have served in the past and now I support our troops as much as I can. IMPORTANT: Life lesson….women just talk more than men, apparently even on blogs

  26. Sure Fire Says:

Well shut ma mouth…I’ll jsut go sit in my corner with my little type writer…*tik tik tiktiktikt tik tik*

  27. stoicmom Says:

I admit it. I’m a military mom. And continuing on the subject of “y’all”, y’all is singular and refers to one as in “y’all gonna finish eating that?” when speaking to one person. The plural of y’all is “all y’all” as in “all y’all come over some time and I’ll fix a mess of chicken”.

It ain’t easy be southern, suga.

  28. Chad Says:

    What about initiate?

“My wife ate a doulbe bacon cheeseburger…. initiate a large fry.”

  29. Sure Fire Says:

oo oo oo I got one I got one….”Yawn’too” where the “n” is fairly short. Yawn’too go fishin? I there is an actual way to spell this word please correct me.

  30. stoicmom Says:

I don’t know if there is a proper spelling of “yawnt”. Depends on the locale. I also like mayonaise as in “Mayonaise a lot of people reads this website”. Or Widjadidja as in “You didn’t bring your hammer widjadidja?”

But honestly, sometimes our “southern” stands out even among southerners. In my family we have a bad habit of pronouncing “our” as “air” and my little brother is always correcting us. If you say “come over to air house” he says “what, and play the AIR guitar?” Like he doesn’t have an accent, the little snot.
